Sister Shawnti Fey walks the looking-glass line between reverence and rebellion, combat boots planted firmly in the soil of service, while her spirit twirls in a tutu of twinkle and tea leaves. Her name means “Fairy of Peace” — not the hush of silence, but a radical, resounding calm that soothes the Mad Hatter in all of us. A proud Radical Faerie and devoted disciple of inner stillness, her path winds like a Wonderland trail: curious, compassionate, and occasionally on fire.
She followed the White Rabbit of Radical Faerie magic to discover the Sisters in 1998, and took her first vows in 2005. One year later, she sealed her sacred service in full regalia beneath the Hollywood sign — and next to Madonna’s former house, because queer miracles know how to find the perfect address — on June 8, 2006.
She has manifested in the U.S., Scotland, and Germany, always bringing her polyglot tongue, glitter-laced prayers, and heart full of healing to those who feel like they've fallen down the wrong rabbit hole. Discharged from the U.S. Army in 1990 for being homosexual, she transformed that loss into a vow of visible, vibrant, loving resistance.
On May 5, 2012, she founded the Mad City Sisters, flinging wide the doors to a new kind of tea party — one where everyone has a seat, the March Hare is genderfluid, and compassion is served hot with a side of fierce fabulousness.
When asked why she does this work, Sister Shawnti Fey simply says, "We're all Mad here, you'll fit right in"
